Starting point: village square of Niederkappel. From Niederkappel (rest stops) across meadows and forests through the hilly landscape to Dorf, past “Kerschbaumbankerl” bench – one of the most beautiful vantage points – to Haichenbach Castle Ruins with observation tower. From there across the Donauleiten hills to Au (snack station). Continue downstream on the left bank of the Danube to the Donauschlinge Nature Trail where you hike through an unspoilt landscape with a unique flora and fauna. The trail continues to Grafenau past an abandoned quarry and leads then back to Niederkappel.
