Stillensteinklamm Gorge

One of the most scenic hiking trails in the Danube region to the Stillensteinklamm gorge starts directly from the Wellness Oasis Aumühle. This leads through the gentle Mühlviertel hills on forest and farm tracks, past spectacular granite formations, to the highlight of the hike, the "Stillenstein". The Danube town of Grein with Greinburg Castle and the town theatre is also along the way. The hike leads back to the Aumühle via the Höhenweg.

A stage of the Donausteig long-distance hiking trail also runs right past the Wellness Oasis Aumühle. This stage 4 Waldhausen - Grein can be hiked in the direction of Bad Kreuzen as well as in the direction of Waldhausen im Strudengau. The Aumühle is located roughly in the middle of the stage and therefore offers an ideal starting point. In summer, the hiking tour to Waldhausen is particularly suitable, which can be rounded off with a dip in the refreshing bathing lake and then a cosy snack at Gasthof Schauer.

The ideal starting point for this is Bad Kreuzen, Upper Austria's first hiking village in the Danube region. The Mondstein-Tour actually starts in Grein an der Donau. However, as it is a circular route, the Wellness Oasis Aumühle is also an ideal starting point. Cultural highlights: The Kneipp spa town of Bad Kreuzen and the Danube town of Grein.

Eternal mountain forests, cultivated farmland like oases, high hills, deep ditches and magnificent views await on this cycle tour. Three saddles to cross will boost your ego. In the centre, the historic market town of Waldhausen invites you to take a break. A mountainous cycle tour for connoisseurs!

Pure hiking pleasure in Upper Austria's first hiking village in Bad Kreuzen. From the Wellness Oasis Aumühle, it is only 12 kilometres by bike on the beautiful R1.14 Mondstein circuit to the hiking village. Starting from the hiking starting point in front of the municipal office, numerous varied hikes in the idyllic Strudengau region await hiking fans. From refreshing gorges and ravines to panoramic hikes that will make your heart beat faster.

Hiking break in the idyllic Strudengau region

The new Bad Kreuzner "Highlight-Runde" combines the most beautiful places and paths into an enjoyable circular hike with the motto "switch off, experience and enjoy! The certified circular route includes all the sights in Bad Kreuzen and makes hikers' hearts beat faster. Fantastic views such as those from Kreuzen Castle and refreshing gorges such as the Wolfsschlucht gorge await along the varied tour. Even the composer Anton Bruckner was enthusiastic about Bad Kreuzen during his lifetime!

That sounds like a perfect combination. In summer (from June to September) in Bad Kreuzen along the Silent Valley circular trail there is the opportunity to take an enjoyable break halfway along the trail at the Schürzbach mill and enjoy a cosy barbecue next to the Schürzbach stream. Local steaks are included in the barbecue package, which can then be grilled at the rustic fireplace. You then hike the circular route back to Bad Kreuzen. A perfect programme for warm summer evenings!

A savoury regional hiking snack to take away? A full hiking rucksack with tasty treats in Bad Kreuzen is available to-go at the KuliNAHrium farm shop. Simply book in advance, set off on your hike and enjoy!

Day trip for active people: Combined cycling & hiking tour to the Gobelwarte

Starting from the Wellness Oasis, the R1.14 Mondstein circuit takes you downhill by e-bike to Grein, a fast-paced start to the combined cycling and hiking tour. From Grein town centre, head towards the Motorikpark, where you can park your bike and take the circular route to the Gobelwarte. The varied, easy circular hike offers a fantastic 360° panoramic view of Grein and the Strudengau region (even as far as the Alps in fine weather) and animal highlights.

Return to the hotel by e-bike. Alternatively, you can travel to and from Grein on the OÖVV line 381.

As the starting point of the R1.15 Three Saddle Tour, the Wellness Oasis Aumühle is perfect for a combined day trip to Waldhausen im Strudengau. Numerous cultural highlights are waiting to be discovered in the market town.

Waldhausen Abbey with its magnificent collegiate church and numerous organ concerts is particularly worth a visit. In summer, the Waldhausen swimming lake and the Shapeland wakeboard facility offer action-packed water fun for young and old. A great view over the Strudengau region can be enjoyed from the lookout point with the Heimkehrerkreuz cross, which can be reached via a short forest hike from the town centre.

The family-run Gasthof Schauer right on the market square with a cosy restaurant and overnight accommodation.

Grein: The pearl of the Strudengau

The former shipping town of Grein is nestled between the Danube and granite. Here, the mighty Danube, steeped in history, combines with the unspoilt, gentle Mühlviertel hills. Inns, patisseries and cafés invite you to linger.

Travelling to Grein: there is a bus stop right next to the Wellness Oasis Aumühle, from where the OÖVV line 381 runs to Grein.

Grein on the Danube

What you should definitely experience in Grein

Greinburg Castle has watched over the town and river for half a millennium. Visitors can look forward to a variety of representative rooms from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Historical ceremonial rooms await visitors on a tour of the castle: the magnificent arcaded courtyard, the imposing Knights' Hall and the castle chapel. The Sala Terrena , lined with Danube pebbles, and the diamond vault with its fascinating interplay of light and shadow are unique.

The historic Grein Municipal Theatre (1791) is the oldest preserved civic theatre in Austria. Many special features can be seen: Original preserved barrier seats; a privy, only separated from the auditorium by a curtain, the Napoleon's box and much more. In the newly designed city museum, you can learn more about the eventful history of the city and the theatre's history from its beginnings to the present day.

Off to the water: Strudengau round trips - by boat through the Strudengau region

From Easter to 26 October, the Strudengau round trips take place on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The trip starts in Grein and takes you downstream to the island of Wörth. On the right bank of Wörth Island, which divides the Danube into two one-way streets, you pass the villages of Hößgang and Freyenstein. From Willersbach, the route leads along the left bank of the Danube past the villages of Sarmingstein, St. Nikola and Struden with Werfenstein Castle and the Schusterstein, which is famous from the legend. The journey then leads back to Grein.

Moonstone alpacas

They are, among other things, the oldest farm animals in the world and perfect companions - alpacas. These lovable and curious creatures also feel at home in our latitudes, especially in the Danube region. In Bad Kreuzen, an alpaca hike around the Moonstone offers pure relaxation and nature!

How to get there: The alpaca farm can be reached by bike in just 10 minutes from the Wellness Oasis Aumühle, or you can take a 30-minute walk through the hilly landscape of Strudengau.

Perg - a bustling shopping town between Machland and the Mühlviertel hills

The charming shopping town of Perg offers a variety of shopping opportunities in small boutiques and speciality shops. Stroll along the shopping street and discover the shopping world of Perg, from fashion and accessories to regional specialities.

Getting there: take the OÖVV bus line 381 directly from the Wellness Oasis Aumühle to Grein. Then continue with the Danube bank railway 133 from Grein to Perg.
