After some time you will pass Aschach, which is known for its baroque row of houses. Here you can take a short rest and visit the old town center, the old parish church and the fishing and boat building museum. You can also visit the barrier-free culture trail in Aschach and learn more about the history of the Danube market. Continue in a southerly direction on the long-distance cycle path through the Eferding Basin - the vegetable-growing region of Upper Austria, which extends as far as Wilhering. Here the slopes to the left and right of the river slowly disappear and the terrain becomes increasingly flat. In Brandstatt, it is worth taking a detour to Eferding and visiting Starhemberg Castle and the Eferding town square.
You follow the Danube until you arrive in Wilhering. Here you can take the opportunity to visit the Wilhering Monastery. Afterwards you will take the ferry to Ottensheim and continue to the cathedral city of Linz.
From Linz you will now return to Ottensheim on the northern bank of the Danube. The Danube cycle path now leads past the Feldkirchen bathing lakes, where it is worth stopping and jumping into the cool water (water skiing, diving, wakeboarding, etc.). Now we say goodbye to the Danube for a short distance and cycle through Feldkirchen, a rural cultural landscape and an important region for fruit and vegetable growing. Here, too, we have the opportunity to marvel at a magnificent medieval building. However, Mühldorf Castle (a hotel) is privately owned, which is why it can only be visited from the outside. At Unterlandshaag, opposite the Danube market of Aschach, you will return to the banks of the Danube.
Now continue on the Danube cycle path in the direction of Schlögen. You have to bridge a short stretch with the longitudinal ferry to get to Untermühl. After you have passed the small village of Obermühl, two more ferry rides are on the program to conclude the stage. The longitudinal ferry takes you from Grafenau through the Schlögener Schlinge to Au. Here you take the bike ferry again to the stage destination Schlögen.

The Danube flows leisurely past the Aumüller family home in Obermühl. An old cider press standing outside gives an idea that the "national drink" of the Upper Austrians has a home within these walls. Erich Aumüller is one of those producers who have elevated cider from a simple thirst quencher for farmers working in the fields to the quality league of the absolute top beverages with inexhaustible passion and expertise. With inexhaustible passion and an uncompromising commitment to quality, he has catapulted himself into the ranks of the best cider producers in Upper Austria. Aumüller has been a member of the select ranks of "Mostsommeliers" since 2007. The family business has long been known for its top-quality musts and exquisite fruit juices, and the Aumüllers' pear musts in particular have repeatedly been among the state winners and the best musts in Austria. Erich Aumüller enjoys sharing his love of cider with guests. If you book in advance, he will show you around his "sanctuary" and present his top musts at tastings. But beware: once you have had a taste of the world of cider in a seminar with Erich Aumüller, you can easily become infected with the cider virus. Cure absolutely impossible.
Dr Rudolf Kirchschläger was born in Grafenau, Niederkappel, in 1915 and was baptised a few days later in the Niederkappel parish church. As a result, Dr Kirchschläger repeatedly visited our town with his family in his later years. He celebrated his 70th and 80th baptism anniversaries in Mühlviertel Cathedral. Dr Kirchschläger died in Vienna on 30 March 2000. In his memory, a memorial plaque was placed in the parish church (donated by OSR Konrad Jäger) and a memorial stone was erected on the site of his birthplace in Grafenau 21. There is also a Kirchschläger trail that leads from the former family home on the Kleine Mühl to the Mühlviertel Cathedral.

After a few challenging years, we are proud to be reviving the tradition and charm of this special restaurant together with experienced professional restaurateur Ümit Mete . With his expertise and tireless commitment, we are doing everything we can to bring the Fischerhäusl back to its former glory - with warm hospitality, fresh regional cuisine and a cosy atmosphere in which everyone feels at home. We look forward to welcoming you here!
The Danube Valley presents an extremely attractive picture, and its highlight is probably to be found at the Schlögene Schlinge, where the power and beauty of Nature is clearly evident. Waterways have been crucial for humankind since time immemorial, and the Danube continues to play an important role even today thanks to shipping. A slightly lesser known use of the Danube Valley is wine cultivation. Between 1,000 and 1,300 AD in the Medieval Warm Period, wine-growing was practised in the transverse valleys and the lower areas of Upper Austria. At the altitude of Inzell, on the left slope of the Danube Valley, there was a small-scale vineyard with walls and step connections. Today it is completely overgrown with shrubbery. Wine-growing, however, has now been resumed in Hilkering, near Aschach.
High above, amidst the Schlögene Schlinge, towers the so-called Kerschbaumer Schlössl (Cherry Tree Castle) - find out from the eponymous Danube legend how it got its name and what "The Cursed Cherry Stone" has to do with it...
The THALHAMMERs - a place with a special history in the Danube region - is located at Feldkirchner Badesee, where the glistening water and the tranquillity of nature set the pace. What began in the 1970s as a small bathing buffet kiosk run by Maria and Hubert Thalhammer has developed into a popular year-round restaurant thanks to the commitment of their son Robert. It is a place where guests can feel the warmth of a family that has created something unique over decades with courage, passion and solidarity - a combination of contemporary enjoyment and deeply rooted history.
"Holiday feeling on the lake - that's our motto," says Robert Thalhammer proudly. You can tell that every seasonal speciality is prepared with great dedication. The attention to detail can also be seen in the rich and varied breakfast buffet, which guests can look forward to all year round. Between the Italian holiday feeling with bruschetta and tomato risotto and the classics such as Wiener schnitzel and baked potatoes, there is something for everyone. A visit to the Thalhammer family is also worthwhile during the asparagus season or for fresh fish - because all products are sourced from regional suppliers. "With us, you can simply unwind and enjoy life," adds Robert - if you want, you can spend the whole day in the restaurant, bar and café: enjoy breakfast on the beach loungers and then savour dinner with a view of the lake and live music. Events also find a special setting here. From weddings to company celebrations - THALHAMMERs is the perfect location for special occasions.
For several decades, THALHAMMERs has been an indispensable part of the Danube region. In the heart of the Eferding Basin, a region known for its fertile soils, the restaurant's connection to its homeland can be felt in every carefully prepared dish. Fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs and seasonal asparagus from the surrounding area around Eferding are used in their dishes. This abundance of natural resources not only characterises the landscape, but also the cuisine at THALHAMMERs.
What makes THALHAMMERs so special is the variety of experiences it offers its guests: In summer, the restaurant opens up completely to the lake, so the beach area with its loungers and the new floating jetty bring a little Ibiza feeling to Upper Austria. In winter, the cosy atmosphere in the comfortably warm conservatory is a tempting place to enjoy a cup of tea and the view of the tranquil lake. THALHAMMERs is located directly on the Donauradweg and along the Eferdinger-Land-Runde, as well as close to the Schlösserrunde on the Donausteig, which is why a visit by bike or hiking boots is particularly worthwhile.
The following tours also lead past the Thalhammers:

Right in the heart of the Danube region, the Wögerer Inn in Feldkirchen an der Donau invites you on a journey through tradition, flavour and hospitality. Here, the roots of generations merge with a wealth of fresh ideas: home-baked bread, refined dishes and warm hospitality. The Wirtshaus is not only a meeting place for locals and cyclists, but also a place that brings the best of the region to the plate - homemade, regional and full of dedication.
For generations, Wirtshaus Wögerer has stood for passion for gastronomy and family commitment. Karl Wögerer - who took over the business from his father - and his son Christoph Wögerer are at the forefront. Christoph is the chef of the house and always endeavours to develop the culinary delights. You can tell that father and son not only look after their guests, but also look after the inn. For the family, the historic building is the centre of good food and years of tradition. What began as an inn back in 1868 was converted into a bakery for a short time by Karl's father, until Karl finally combined the two after he took over and opened an inn with its own bakery. While guests can dine in the restaurant, bread is still baked in the adjoining bakery - not only for the inn, but also for anyone who wants to take it home with them. The Wögerer family can seat around 270 guests, who can enjoy a varied menu ranging from classic specialities such as roast pork with a crispy vinegar and salt crust to home-baked bread. From homemade breadcrumbs made from coarse white breadcrumbs to first-class regional meat from the farmer or farmer's wife around the corner - quality is the top priority here. In addition to the many seasonal dishes that change every month, Christoph always tries to incorporate his own modern creations - including a particular highlight of the kitchen: the game burger. Whether you prefer hearty, savoury dishes or vegan food, there is something here for every taste - younger guests and regulars alike enjoy the modern-traditional mix of the inn.
As a proud member of Kultiwirte and with AMA certification, Christoph and Karl focus on regionality and quality. Carefully selected ingredients from the region and a high standard of preparation are only part of what makes Wirtshaus Wögerer an important part of the region. Above all, it is the warm atmosphere and attentive service that make every guest feel at home. As ambassadors for the Danube region, Christoph and Karl are also involved in the volunteer fire brigade alongside their professional passion or enjoy time out hunting.
The inn is located directly on the Danube Cycle Path R1 and is therefore a popular destination for cyclists and tourists. Popular excursion destinations for cycling or hiking tours are the Schloegen-Linz cycle route, the Schlösserrunde and the 6-Seen-Runde - all in the immediate vicinity.
