Nature & Movement

Danube Upper Austria - a region with magical appeal

Nature at its finest, such as the Schlögener Donauschlinge, a famous meander in the river at Schlögen with the steep, heavily forested slopes on both banks known as Donauleiten, can be encountered in this region.

Biking & Hiking

The Danube Cycle Path leads along the river banks from Passau to Vienna. The long distance hiking trail Donausteig opens up new perspectives on the Danube.

Magnificent Culture

Open your eyes and gape!

The Upper Austrian Danube Region covers the area along the Danube from Passau to St. Nikola: Passau, the former bishop’s see with a splendid and charming historical center; Linz, the capital of the province of Upper Austria, was European Cultural Capital in 2009 and is now known as UNESCO city of media arts as well as picturesque Enns, the oldest city in Austria and the quaint boatmen haunt of Grein. It also includes magnificent monasteries and abbeys such as Engelszell, Wilhering and St. Florian. Castles and ruins steeped in legend are just waiting to be discovered, as are picturesque villages and old market squares, inviting sand beaches and small museums.
