The Celtic village of Mitterkirchen was opened in 1991 near the site of a previous archaeological excavation of a Hallstatt burial site. The open-air museum, which is managed by the market town of Mitterkirchen, currently has 20 buildings and offers an extensive educational program. It is scientifically supervised by the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum and is visited by around 15,000 people every year.
