The Cozy One - Strudengauer 9er (Stage 2)

At the climb to the Reitberg Linden tree there is a magnificent panoramic view including a resting bench for tired hikers. The highlight of the hike is the spectacular viewpoint, the Gobelwarte, which was newly built in 2018. At an elevation of 484 m, the 21 m high steel structure offers a dreamlike 360-degree panoramic view. To the north over the hills of the Mühlviertel, to the south over the Alps, to the west over the Machland, and to the east over Grein and the Strudengau. 

From the hiking trail starting point at the Danube bank in Grein, follow the "Castles and Palaces Trail" through Donaugasse towards Grein town square. At the end of the town square, turn right into Kreuznerstraße and after a few meters turn left into Schlossgasse. Here a short detour up to Greinburg Castle is also possible. At the end of Schlossgasse, turn right again toward Kreuznerstraße and follow the street to the fork with Schießstätte Straße. Then keep left and follow Kreuznerstraße on the Kreuzner Danube view loop. Turn left at Greinerwaldstraße and follow the Austrian Romantic Road until the junction right to Lettental. Continue on the Kreuzner Danube view loop past Edenauhof and further towards Oberkalmberg. At Bauernhof Huber in the Hub, turn left and follow the farm track Kalmberg southward. At the crossing with the Austrian Romantic Road, turn right and just after Bauernhof Scherer turn left onto Unterhörnbach.

Continue on the street towards Unterhörnbach and then turn left towards Letten 8. Before the wooded area, turn right and follow Donausteig 1 towards Reitberg Linden (panoramic view and natural monument). Continue on the farm track Reitberg and the farm track Gschwendt. Before the Kren Chapel, turn right from farm track Reitberg onto farm track Oberbergen and continue following Donausteig 1 to the Gobelwarte viewpoint. After a rest at the Gobelwarte, follow Donausteig 1 again past Bauernhof Labegger to Grein. The descent to Grein via Donausteig 1 (Reitsteig) leads over a steep serpentine path and is rewarded with a wonderful view over Grein. Then the path leads to the Motorikpark Grein and along the Kreuznerbach towards Bogenbrücke. On the promenade back to the starting point of the hike or at Bogenbrücke turn right and follow the 3rd stage of the Strudengauer 9er - the challenging one.
