Description: From Esperanto square with the sundial by Grein physic Dr. Werner Riegler, downriver to the model of Jupiter, the first station of tne "Planet trail", which is currently being built along the waterfront. Here you`ll also find the "Mühlviertel Fountation", which illustrates Grein`s location in Mühlviertel. Continue along the waterfront upriver. At the end of the green space you`ll see the Danube`s raftsman" in bronze rowing. The route leads along the Danube across Greinerbach bridge (on the opposite you`ll see a bronze statue of bridge saint Johannes von Nepomuk), to Halterkreuz cross. From the parking lot diagonally on the opposite side, eighter to the right via Stiegen or the anniversary road to the "Gallery in Granite" with Petroglyphs and to the chapel on the calvary hill with late baroque wooden figures. Back through the main road on the historic town square with the famous historical city theater, the oldest secular theater in Austria. From here back down to the Danube and upstream to Esperanto square.
Tip: If you still have time and energy, do take a detour on the way back to Greinberg Castle with its wonderful Renaissance arcade court! (Walking time from the town centre about 10 minutes). The castle was built between 1491 and 1495 as one of the first castles in the German-speaking world. Here there are many impressive festival rooms to discover, such as the stately knight`s hall, the castle chapel, the diamond vault and the Sala Terrena decorated with countless Danube pebbles.
