St. Martin im Mühlkreis
Winter fun in St. Martin i. M. - the granite village on the Danube
The character of the Mühlviertel is more evident in winter than at any other time of year. The snow that covers the granite landscape emphasises the rugged charm of the landscape. At the same time, it muffles all sounds, focussing the senses on tranquillity and slowing down. Mühlviertler Granitland is a region that sets locals and visitors alike in motion. Cross-country ski trails run between the hills and above and snowshoe hikers make their tracks in unrivalled style. Ice skaters race across the ponds and glide ice sticks.
Only one thing is important: to relax after sport. For example, in a cosy, warm restaurant. Here you can savour the aroma of classic roast meat, grilled ribs or baked bacon dumplings. The landlord serves a foam-crowned beer speciality, which owes its taste to the purity of the primary rock water.
It is the power of tranquillity that lies over the winter in the Mühlviertel granite country. When the sun sinks blood-red over snow-covered hills at a vantage point, the certainty that everyday life is far away increases at the same time.
