Description:
The start is at Wilhering monastery. Visit the beautiful rococo church (17th century) and the collection of Upper Austrian painter Fritz Fröhlich in the museum. It is the starting point for the Fritz-Fröhlich hiking trail. It leads past the idyllic brewhouse pond to the artist’s former studio, continuing up Höfberg Mountain, past the Lady chapel and via the “Rose field” to the likely most scenic viewpoints of the municipality with views across Danube Valley all the way to Pöstlingberg Hill. The trail now leads downhill, via the state road to the Danube. Small hikers can let off steam here at the large playground or cool off in the water at the nearby sandbank. With the suspension bridge you can now enjoy a somewhat different boat trip across the Danube to Ottensheim. The hiking trail leads along the Danube to the cemetery, where the grave with the painter’s Job statue is located. Across the market square you’ll get back to the ferry and to the Danube bank at Wilhering. At the idyllic towpath you’ll get back to Wilhering monastery.

Tip:
Visit to Wilhering monastery, monastery museum (also interesting for children!), the rococo church, monastery tour (church, cloister, museum), monastery park with old, unique trees and tree nature trail (tours led by high school students available). In the new monastery gateway, there is also a monastery cafe and monastery shop. Here you can also buy wine from the leased wineries at Krems with its own label. At the rose field you can enjoy wonderful views and on the ferry the Danube, the boats, the view of the powerplant can be particularly well appreciated. Large playground in Ottensheim and in Ufer (here with berth). The Greek restaurant Dionysos is a good place to stop off for a break with beautiful views of the Danube. Way back along the idyllic towpath. In the monastery cafe you can enjoy coffee, cakes, beverages and a monastery snack from regional suppliers (self-service). Small, pram-friendly route with guide also possible: “Monastery route” of the planetary trail.

Equipment:
Hiking backpack (incl. Rain cover), sturdy shoes
