Description:
From the town hall, go along Sauwaldstraße to the 400-year-old, listed farrier museum. After crossing the street at the "Golden Ship" and past the "Art on the Danube Trail sculptures", proceed about 4 km along the Danube to the 1700-year-old excavations "Römerburgus Stanacum" in Oberranna, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Danube Limes and the best-preserved ancient building in Upper Austria. After the visit, cross the street; the hiking trail leads left past the Marienkapelle "Magna Mater Austriae" uphill to the high plateau, where a meadow path branches off to the St. Pankraz chapel on the left. A blue-yellow marking leads right onwards towards Schauern to the "Sauwald potatoes" on the left and further to the "Castle View" on the Sauwald Panorama Road. Then continue to St. Aegidi and on the road towards Engelhartszell. Shortly after the bridge over the rushing brook, the hiking trail turns right through the forest, past the market church built in Gothic style back to the town hall.Tip:
The "Römerburgus Oberranna" - probably called "Stanacum" by the Romans - has been designated as an excavation site on the Roman Danube limes and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The St. Pankraz chapel supposedly houses a spring once believed to have healing properties.Equipment:
