This Donausteig stage starts in Eferding. The historic town lies in the center of the Eferding Basin, a few kilometers south of the current Danube course. Eferding is Austria's third oldest town and impresses with its beautiful town center. The magnificent town square with Starhemberg Castle extending from it tells of prosperity and power. From the Donausteig starting point on the edge of the old town, we walk on side streets in a long right curve through rural cultural landscapes: fertile fields, vegetable cultivation, large farms, direct sales, wayside shrines, ... – pure Eferding Basin idyll! In the rural settlement of Unterschaden, we turn north into the floodplain forest. Along an asphalt road in a right curve, we reach the Aschach, which we follow about 1 km downstream. Then we cross the Aschach and stand by the Danube next to the Donausteig rest stop “Langer Haufen”. The mighty Danube flows past us here. For the next 5 kilometers, we hike downstream on the paved Danube bank dam. The uniform path offers plenty of space for reflection and philosophizing. Suddenly, the unknown world of the Danube waterway comes to mind and we discover the Danube as a playground for various adventurers: cyclists, canoeists, ... – we are not alone! In sight of the Ottensheim-Wilhering Danube power plant, we leave the Danube and follow the Innbach to the right for the next 3 km on a driving path through floodplain forests. In doing so, we circumvent the Ottensheim-Wilhering power plant in a long left curve. The bridge of the power plant access road in Fall allows us to cross the Innbach and we continue downstream on its other bank. After the Donausteig rest stop “Fish educational trail”, the Donausteig again turns into the floodplain forest until we reach the Danube shore again in the Wilhering/Ufer settlement. Shortly after, we stand at the Donausteig start point “Wilhering” at the ferry landing of the Ottensheim-Wilhering ferry. A Donausteig stage with long-distance hiking flow experience and plenty of space for reflection.

Directions:
From the Donausteig starting point “Eferding”, we cross the parking lot of the Eferding outdoor pool and follow the road north. After about 800 m, we turn right in Wörth. A small farm road now takes us east. At the intersection in the rural settlement Unterschaden (large farm on the right), we walk a few meters straight ahead, then turn left into the floodplain forest. Now an asphalt road leads in a right curve past a sewage treatment plant and then along the Aschach downstream to a bridge. On this bridge, turn left over the Aschach. A few meters later we stand at the Danube at the Donausteig rest stop “Langer Haufen”. From here, the Donausteig follows the paved Danube bank dam several kilometers downstream. In sight of the Ottensheim-Wilhering Danube power plant, we leave the Danube and hike right along a narrow driving path along the Innbach through the floodplain forest. We circumvent the power plant in a long left curve. At the bridge in Fall (power plant access) we cross the Innbach and immediately turn left. A short stretch through a settlement, then we walk along the bank of the Innbach again. After the Donausteig rest stop “Fish educational trail”, the Donausteig turns away from the Innbach and leads through floodplain forest until we reach the Danube shore again in Wilhering/Ufer. Shortly after, we stand at the Donausteig starting point “Wilhering” at the ferry landing of the Ottensheim-Wilhering ferry.
