SPIRITUAL HIKING ON THE DONAUSTEIG:

BAD MÜHLACKEN
We meet the Sisters of Mary of Mount Carmel, who run the traditional Kneipp spa centre, once again on the Donausteig. They are people who dedicate their lives to following Jesus.

The dynamic of withdrawing and engaging from a listening heart is their guiding principle. Under the motto "Letting the soul breathe", they offer therapies to restore order to life and experience new vitality.

Their motto is to revitalise the body, calm the mind and nourish the soul. They rely on their spirituality and the five pillars of Sebastian Kneipp's health teachings, coining the term "holistic health holiday".

When hiking on the Schlösserrunde, I feel the vitality within me, let the great Danube stream, the refreshing Feldkirchner bathing lakes, the babbling brook in the Pesenbach valley, quiet forest paths, lush meadows, the monastery herb garden in Bad Mühlacken take effect on me.

From the starting point in Oberlandshaag, we hike to Unterlandshaag under the Danube bridge (turn right at the cycle information centre) past smaller settlements. Continue straight ahead and turn left at the last farmhouse. Along the field path past Bergheim Castle (watch out for the school, can only be viewed from the outside), we come to the centre of Feldkirchen.

We cross the village and before we reach the Danube, we turn left to the Feldkirchen bathing lakes with diving station, wakeboard and water ski lift and the motor skills park. After the water ski lift, we turn left and leave the lake area behind us. We keep to the right, past the golf club and after another lake turn left towards Mühldorf. From Mühldorf Castle we walk to Pesenbach (Pesenbach Castle is privately owned and can only be visited from the outside), cross the main road and turn left to Bad Mühllacken. In Bad Mühllacken we enter the Pesenbachtal nature reserve and climb the Prälatensteig past the Faustschlössl (hotel restaurant) back to the starting point.

The candle stone is located in the wildly romantic and legendary Pesenbachtal valley and is the landmark of the nature reserve.
