The castle has a special place in the heart of the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Acquired by Duke Ernst I in 1823, it served as an Austrian residence and hunting lodge for subsequent generations.
Visitors can enjoy a tour of the castle's historic ceremonial rooms:

The historic city theatre Grein (1791) is the oldest secular theatre of Austria and without any doubt a sight of European significance. Today, the city theater, which was obtained from such an early time, is considered a jewel that is visited and admired by many visitors from near and far. Many curiosities from the past can be seen here. Original seats that had to be locked/unlocked with a small key; a toilet that was separated from the auditorium only with a curtain; a prison from where the prisoners could watch the performances and were given food, drinks and tobacco by the audience; the Napoleon box and a lot more. A special exhibition is connected to the historic city theatre.
The small house community of St Anthony's House tries to walk a "pilgrimage to the sources of faith" and to discover the sources of life together with the guests: in the Liturgy of the Hours, in the celebration of the liturgy, in Eucharistic adoration, in silence, in living from the Word of God, in conversation...
We welcome individual guests and groups. We are happy to organise retreats and days of reflection for closed groups. Above all, however, St. Anthony's House invites individuals to days of silence, reflection, individual retreats and holidays in the monastery all year round.

The town fountain on Grein's historic town square, also known as the Meaggaubrunnen, dates back to 1872 and was named after Count Leonhard Helfrich Meggau, who owned Greinburg Castle. The citizens of Grein erected a stone monument in the town square to Count Meggau, who was socially committed to the people of Grein.

Built as a late Gothic building, dedicated to St Aegidius. The altarpiece created by Bartolomeo Altomonte depicts St Egidius with the hind and is framed by a lively baroque structure. Magnificent pulpit with the four church fathers, donated by the lady of the castle Anna von Dietrichstein in 1679. Interesting gravestones and tombstones.
Church services on Sundays and public holidays: 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m.
