MUSIKVEREIN Wesenufer

Waldkirchen am Wesen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
A musical story in different tones.
The headmaster Wögerbauer and the innkeeper Königseder founded the Wesenufer Music Association in 1876.
In the beginning, Anton Königseder taught the band of eight musicians how to read music and play various wind instruments. Particularly talented musicians were also trained on the violin. The sheet music was borrowed and copied in Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis. Around 1900, special musical importance was attached to playing for St Florian's Day, the Corpus Christi procession and especially for the birth and name celebration of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Due to financial difficulties, the Musikverein was incorporated into the Wesenufer fire brigade in 1909.

After the First World War, Mathias Höller began to rebuild the organisation and in 1924 the association separated from the fire brigade in order to prove its independence. Twelve bands from the surrounding area accepted the invitation to celebrate the 50th anniversary in 1926. The local population was not only entertained musically. The Musikverein's theatre and Schuhplattler group, founded by Gottfried Strasser and Alois Dopler in 1922, showed off their skills at festivals and events. Its activities were discontinued during the Second World War.

After the war, the organisation began to rebuild itself with concerts and numerous outings. In 1950, the Musikverein Wesenufer took part in a competition in Schärding for the first time and became a member of the Austrian Brass Band Association at the beginning of 1952. In 1968, the band took part in a marching competition in Raab for the first time and was honoured. At this time, rehearsals took place alternately in the town's inns. For its 100th anniversary in August 1977, the Wesenufer band wore its new traditional costume for the first time. A beautiful club flag, donated by the German holidaying couple Käthe and Willi Parduhn, was blessed at these celebrations. Due to the closure of the primary school in Wesenufer, the two classrooms were made available to the Musikverein as rehearsal rooms in the same year. At the popular Christmas concerts, the cultural officer Sepp Reinthaler, who also began keeping a chronicle of the association at this time, led the programme. In 1991, the Musikverein took part in the international music festival in Rastede for the first time, where it won an award in the marching and concert categories.

From 1986 to 1990, the joint fire station and music centre was built with great effort by all the musicians and the local population. After a 20-year hiatus, the theatre group was brought back to life under the direction of Helmut Kalinke and Axel Dopler. With the 115th anniversary in 1991, the 30th district music festival was also held.

Since 1994, the Musikverein has organised carnival sessions every two years, which are very popular. In 1996, the Musikverein made its first appearance in a new costume and the club newspaper Allegro kept friends and patrons informed about the club's activities. The clarinet quartet "Mezzo Forte" with Peter Reinthaler, Carina Paar, Gerhard Dopler and Martin Selle was honoured at state level.

Since 2004, the Musikverein has been competing in the highest performance level E, marching music with show programme, in the marching competitions. A special honour was bestowed on the Musikverein in October 2005 by the OÖ. Wind Music Association. It represented the province of Upper Austria at the regional music festival in Merano, South Tyrol, where it achieved the second-highest score in the E level marching competition. The 130th anniversary of the founding was celebrated in 2006 with a large 3-day festival. A club Olympics, a musical Danube boat trip with the Upper Austrian military band and a morning pint with the Eberschwand farmers' band rounded off the celebrations. Due to the extreme heat, some members of the farmers' band were no longer able to take off their traditional costumes. They went swimming in the Danube in full costume. After 1989 and 1997, the Musikverein will receive its third honour from the state of Upper Austria in 2007.
A special pleasure and honour was the appointment of bandmaster and baton leader Gerhard Dopler as district baton leader of the Schärding district in summer 2007 and his appointment as deputy state baton leader in October 2015.

2010: The Musikverein Wesenufer goes online with its newly designed homepage.
In September 2010, the Musikverein undertook a musical trip to Hungary/Budapest, which included a joint concert with the Tàt music band on the programme.

2013
: After 1989, 1997 and 2007, the Musikverein was presented with its fourth honour by the province of Upper Austria in 2013 by LH Dr Josef Pühringer.

In June 2015, the Musikverein and the Kopfing/I. Musikverein represented Upper Austria at the Federal Brass Music Festival in Vienna. In addition to a neighbourhood concert, the highlights of the event were the march-in on the Ringstraße and the subsequent concert on Rathausplatz.

n 2016, the 140th anniversary of the association was duly celebrated with a 2-day marquee festival at the Union Wesenufer sports complex together with 17 guest bands and numerous guests of honour (including OÖBV President Josef Lemmerer). On Saturday afternoon, the youth brass bands played at the youth afternoon; afterwards, the Raaber Blechbuam provided an exuberant party atmosphere in the marquee. The Czeska brass band provided the musical backdrop for the festive morning pint on Sunday.

In 2017, bandmaster Gerhard Dopler handed over the baton to his successor Heimo Mitter at the autumn concert after 18 years in this position. The newly acquired club costume (made by Hohensinn tailors) was also presented for the first time.

In 2018, the Musikverein Wesenufer had the honour of performing the show programme choreographed by baton leader Gerhard Dopler at the Schladming Tattoo as part of the international wind music festival Mid Europe 2018 at WM Park Planei. An additional open-air concert on Schladming's main square rounded off the Musikverein excursion
