Roman Castle Oberranna - UNESCO World Heritage Site Danube-Limes
The late-antique burgus of Oberranna, likely called STANACUM by the Romans, is located within the municipal boundaries of Engelhartszell on the Danube. This important border outpost on the Danube Limes is about 1,700 years old and is the best-preserved ancient building in Upper Austria. The Danube Limes, serving as the northern border of the Roman Empire, ran along the Danube from Regensburg to the Black Sea and was part of the approximately 6,000-kilometer-long Limes encircling the Mediterranean from Scotland to Morocco. Since July 2021, the Danube Limes, with all its archaeological sites, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The history of the Roman Empire at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Danube Limes is fascinating. And it becomes even more exciting when brought to life through augmented reality.
