Musica Sacra: The Stars

Works by Franz Schubert, Leopold Sonnleithner, and Robert Schumann

Leopold Sonnleithner, who would come to mean a great deal to Schubert, met him in 1816 at the premiere
of Schubert’s (now lost) cantata *Prometheus* as a performer. This fateful encounter between the then 19-year-olds set an important course for the young Schubert in the years that followed.

n its new program, the vocal ensemble FRANZ once again focuses on rare treasures: they present two wonderful quartets by Sonnleithner. In an atmospheric way, they delve into the timeless themes of friendship and farewell—and, through works by Schubert and Schumann, they tell of human encounters, faithful companions
in the night sky, and hope.
