Musica Sacra: Chorus Angelorum - Music of the Angels for Choir and Harps

Linz Jeunesse Choir

The motif of angels singing and making music runs like a common thread through
entire history of Western music. The Jeunesse Choir of Linz has put together a varied program on this fascinating
theme, bringing together a diverse program that unites sonically magnificent
works from the Renaissance to the present day. The inclusion of two “heavenly”
harps lends the sound a particularly atmospheric and richly colored
touch. A highlight of the program is the 15-minute work *Among Angels* by the
British composer William Todd, which was composed for the renowned ensemble “The Sixteen”
. Furthermore, the selected pieces shed light on various facets
of the angelic theme: In the “Sanctus,” the song of praise of the heavenly hosts resounds; in the
*Ave Maria*, the Archangel Gabriel appears as a divine messenger; in Mendelssohn’s *Denn*
He Has Commanded His Angels, the guardian angel motif takes center stage, and in the hymn *In
paradisum, the choir of angels guides the departed to the heavenly Jerusalem.
