Divine Matter

TANZ LINZ opens the season with the double bill Divine Matter. Two choreographic works from a feminine perspective that make it possible to experience the body as a place of origin, change and transmission.

In Worship, a world premiere by US-American choreographer Drew Jacoby, divine femininity is negotiated not as a religious motif but as a physical experience. Jacoby works with archetypal female figures and approaches them through rituals, repetition and collective presence. Music by Rosalía and Björk and sound design by Crystn Hunt Akron condense the piece into an atmospheric experience of devotion to the body, nature and community.

Auto Cannibal by Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake looks at the cycle of creative processes from the perspective of artists. In combination with the music of Robin Fox, the work explores the reuse of choreographic materials: ideas are taken up, broken down, transformed and carried on in the dancers' bodies. Auto Cann ibal does not see reuse as a standstill, but as a prerequisite for renewal.

Together, the two works unfold an evening of dance about creation, transformation and the continuous becoming of meaning.
