Luisa Miller

Luisa loves Rodolfo, Rodolfo loves Luisa - it could be quite simple. If it weren't for the differences in status and the boundless mistrust of the two fathers keeping the lovers apart. For the aristocratic Rodolfo is supposed to take a bride befitting his station according to the wishes of his power-mad and ruthless father, whereas Luisa's father warns his daughter against the equally passionate and mercurial Rodolfo. The young couple's steadfastness begins a terrible downward spiral of desire, intrigue and devotion that can only end in an all-consuming tragedy. Verdi's Luisa Miller is the musically highly emotional condensation of the classic Sturm und Drang material into a work about the abysses of privacy and the falseness of the public.

Director Stephan Kimmig presents his first production in Linz with this psychogram of a love against all odds that must fail because of family ties and honor, because of the question of everything or nothing, the shimmering togetherness of young people who go to extremes in the incredible intensity of love.
