Knocked Loose

On their third album, the hardcore institution from Kentucky pushes their sound to new extremes - more brutal, faster and surprisingly complex.

After more than a decade of band history, Knocked Loose are at a point where pressure and opportunities are growing in equal measure. After the highly acclaimed predecessor and a touring phase that took them from underground clubs to festival stages such as Coachella and Bonnaroo, the next chapter began a long, arduous process. Around 40 songs were written over a period of almost four years before the ten tracks that make up the current, third album "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To" finally emerged.

The result condenses everything that the hardcore institution from Kentucky stands for - uncompromising heaviness, emotional openness and a permanent search for new forms of expression. Furious tempos, massive breakdowns and vocals that oscillate between rage, despair and bitter clarity meet surprising musical breaks. Sometimes unexpected grooves and melodic passages push their way into the violence of the songs, sometimes samples, spoken word moments or unusual rhythm ideas open up new spaces within the brutal dynamics.

In terms of content, the band remains true to its core. Themes such as fear, betrayal, religious hypocrisy and inner turmoil run through the songs. The album title goes back to an encounter during a turbulent flight, when a stranger sitting next to the singer eased his panic with a simple sentence: "You won't go before you're supposed to." A moment that provides comfort without glossing over the darkness that drives many of these songs.

It is precisely this tension between existential heaviness and eruptive energy that characterizes the new material. The songs are more aggressive, faster and sometimes catchier than ever before - without losing the raw core that made the band great. Hardcore remains the basis. But the spectrum of sound colors, emotions and ideas has grown audibly.

Whether in front of 10,000 people at a festival or in a sweaty club - the power of this music works everywhere. And that is precisely their promise: uncompromising hardcore that continues to evolve without forgetting its origins.
