With their distinctive dialect-infused rap—blending classic boombap with contemporary sounds—the two Upper Austrians are joining forces for the first time on a full-length project.

Average and Kayo, two established figures in the (Upper) Austrian rap scene, are joining forces for the first time in 2026 to release a collaborative album that’s already being hailed as one of the most exciting projects of the year. 

Average, from Linz, has established himself as a defining voice in the local hip-hop scene through mixtapes, EPs, and numerous collaborations. Since the 1990s—both as a solo artist and as a member of Markante Handlungen—Kayo has been one of the scene’s central figures and has played a key role in shaping its growth and development. Both are also part of the TTR Allstars collective.

Together, they’ve created an album that oscillates between classic boombap and contemporary productions. With support from the scene’s who’s who, a versatile work is taking shape that appeals to die-hard hip-hop fans as well as listeners of contemporary trends. Thematically, the release ranges from personal stories to sharp battle rap.

Fans of the dialect have especially reason to celebrate: The interplay of dialect, distinctive voices, and varied production gives the project an unmistakable character—and makes it a potential contender for the Dialect Rap Album of the Year in 2026.
