30 Wonderful Years.

Three decades of Sportfreunde Stiller—from the height of Britpop in their rehearsal space in Germering near Munich to venues filled with voices that know every word. From the very beginning, Peter, Flo, and Rüde saw their band as a collaborative project. What began in 1996 without any grand plan to save humanity eventually became their life motto: friendship as motivation, defiance as fuel, and the joy of playing as a constant state of being. Amid indie manifestos, World Cup chants, and global tours, the sense of wonder remained—along with that special blend of attitude and good cheer. Songs became companions; strangers became friends. Thirty years later, the motto still holds true: give it your all together, not alone. Now it’s time to celebrate—with new material, a “Best Of,” and maximum heartfelt vibes.

Rüde
How do you look back on thirty years of band history? From a distance, the view resembles a vast jungle of the depths of life. What becomes hubris for one person becomes the norm for the band. Standing on stage while tens of thousands sing a song that just tumbled out of our fingers in that grimy rehearsal room: no problem—it’s normal. Music becomes a backstage pass into the hearts of strangers, who somehow become friends through it—it happens time and time again. That’s always beautiful, and you never get used to it. I can recommend being in a band to anyone. Whether with or without music, it doesn’t matter; the main thing is that you give it your all together—and not alone!

Flo
Armed with the tools and experience gained from a radio play, two EPs, ten albums, and millions of concerts (for example, Eggenfelden, Neustrelitz, Hamburg, Tashkent, Madrid, London, New York, etc.)—and the privilege of being able to combine our profession with our calling—we bow down to our very toes before our listeners. Mucho gracias, guys, for dancing along, singing along, and feeling the music with us! We just want to tell you that you mean the world to us. And you have for 30 wonderful years! Let’s go!

It’s 2026… so now we, Sportfreunde, are celebrating our 30th anniversary. You’ve got to let that sink in! As a person, turning 30 means “goodbye, youth; oh no, real life!” As a band, turning 30 means “Hooray, we’re still alive!” That’s why we’re going to celebrate everything that comes our way from here on out so hard that our hearts will vibrate and our bellies will jiggle! We want to write new stuff, then hit the road with a “Best Of” album and really let loose! Will you join us on this wild ride through 30 wonderful years?
