There is a time before them - and a time after. Everything before doesn't matter. Since Steel Panther were unleashed from the Sunset Strip onto international stages in 2000 A.D., heavy metal has once again become what it always wanted to be: loud, exaggerated, shameless and damn entertaining. Spandex instead of restraint, falsetto instead of feuilleton, humor instead of sanctuary.

What is celebrated here is not a parody of the outside, but a lovingly exaggerated view of the inside - played with maximum virtuosity and minimum shame. Musically, every riff change is spot on, every chorus ignites, every chorus is stadium format. The fact that guests such as Corey Taylor, M. Shadows, Justin Hawkins and Scott Ian paid their respects is not a gag, but a seal of quality.

Since their breakthrough with "Feel The Steel", the quartet from Los Angeles has released a whole series of albums that both celebrate and expose heavy metal - from "Balls Out" and "All You Can Eat" to "Heavy Metal Rules". Millions of streams, worldwide tours, festival escapades and a reputation that precedes them: This is about escalation with skill.

The current album "On The Prowl" sharpens this principle once again. For the first time, the material sounds freer, more direct and more self-confident than ever. New songs focus on tempo, sing-along choruses and themes that oscillate somewhere between club night, social media mania and 80s nostalgia - always with a wink, sometimes with a sledgehammer.

Live, the whole thing is in a category of its own anyway. A concert means a temporary state of emergency: 90 minutes of loss of control, humor below the belt, guitar solos with perms and an audience that is allowed to do everything for one evening that would otherwise not be possible.
