The World Wit­hout Us

The exhibition brings together artistic positions that refer to concepts such as "Deep Time" - time periods of billions of years in which human existence is little more than a moment - and "Cosmic Horror", a feeling between fascination and horror in the face of non-human existence that is incomprehensible to our concepts of time and space.

As a result of the Enlightenment, the sciences expanded the traditional Western concept of space and time into sheer infinity. The universe became older, bigger and colder. This is also associated with the experience of insecurity, of no longer being at the center of the universe, of no longer being anchored in a world view that is able to wrest its final meaning from history. The threat of an apocalypse has been replaced by a geological continuity of catastrophes and changes.

There is a dawning awareness of an uncanny, sublime indifference to human scale in a universe that is neither empty nor animate, but undead.
