POWER shows how closely energy and politics are linked.
The exhibition shows how geopolitical developments, political institutions and social movements influence the planning of infrastructure - for example, the construction of pipelines, wind turbines or recycling plants. Such infrastructures shape our everyday lives and are often at the center of political disputes. The term POWER alludes to both: Energy and power. The exhibition highlights various topics: the beginning of European cooperation with the Coal and Steel Community, the enthusiasm for nuclear energy in the post-war period, early environmental movements and the current transition to renewable energy and the circular economy - all made visible through built infrastructure.
Today, architects, landscape and urban planners and artists are also contributing to a world that is heavily influenced by fossil fuels. At the same time, they have the opportunity and the potential to actively shape a sustainable and climate-friendly future.
A production of the CIVA Architecture Museum, Brussels
Nikolaus Hirsch, Artistic Director of CIVA, will speak at the opening of the exhibition.
