Explore Schärding's rich past with a Schärding guide. The medieval fortified town is shaped by all eras, but the showpiece is the baroque Silberzeile in the city center. An incomparable ensemble of houses is presented here, gable to gable: Narrow facades, often barely a room wide, squeeze between mighty town houses. Rich merchants once lived here, their pockets full of pieces of silver, which probably gave the Silberzeile its name. The late medieval guild colors of the houses, the magic of the old gates, the quiet corners and mysterious alleys characterize the charming character of the small, historic town to this day.
