The PATH OF SALT leads from Altaussee and Bad Aussee via Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, Ebensee, Gmunden, Stadl-Paura, Lambach, Wels, Linz, Rainbach im Mühlkreis and Bujanov to Budweis. The historical significance of this route is reflected in the horse-drawn railway stations "Engelhof" in Gmunden, "Kerschbaum" and "Bujanov" on the Czech section of the line, which are considered to be the oldest railway stations still in existence in continental Europe. These railway stations were built to transport the salt efficiently from the Kammergut to Bohemia. From Lambach railway station (km 0) to the Traun, along it to the Wels railway bridge, through the Volksgarten to the town square (km 15.9). Continue to the horse-drawn railway museum Bahnzeit Maxlhaid (km 22.5), then to Marchtrenk (km 25.6) (Friedensweg variant), then to the Traun on the Jakobsweg to Ebelsberg (km 46.3). From there it goes along Wienerstraße to the music theatre and along Humboldstraße to Südbahnhof (53.6 km).
