With a capacity of 50 people, a route tailored to guests' wishes and the best quality of food and drink coupled with maximum flexibility, the MS Lilofee is ideal for company parties, incentives & meetings, weddings, celebrations and festivities.

Dr Rudolf Kirchschläger was born in Grafenau, Niederkappel, in 1915 and was baptised a few days later in the Niederkappel parish church. As a result, Dr Kirchschläger repeatedly visited our town with his family in his later years. He celebrated his 70th and 80th baptism anniversaries in Mühlviertel Cathedral. Dr Kirchschläger died in Vienna on 30 March 2000. In his memory, a memorial plaque was placed in the parish church (donated by OSR Konrad Jäger) and a memorial stone was erected on the site of his birthplace in Grafenau 21. There is also a Kirchschläger trail that leads from the former family home on the Kleine Mühl to the Mühlviertel Cathedral.

Our Fischgasthof is located right next to the Danube, nestled in the beautiful Danube valley. Our down-to-earth business is located directly on the Danube cycle path and the Donausteig trail. We are part of the Donausteig innkeepers' cooperation, are flexible and are happy to cater to the needs and wishes of our guests.

We process Danube fish we have caught ourselves, game from our hunting grounds and serve numerous cider and juice varieties from our "Donautaler Mostkellerei".
As a certified cider sommelier, I recommend our pear frizzante with the name "Donauperle" - a protected trademark!

Seasonal delicacies such as Eferding asparagus can be found on our menu and the beer comes from the nearby Mühlviertel breweries Hofstetten and Schlägl.

For groups, we offer guided tours of the winery with documented tastings of cider and juice. We cater to the individual wishes of our guests.

From the Gierlinger Danube Paradise, nature and sport can be wonderfully combined. The Danube cycle path and the hiking trails are a paradise for all those who like to be active and enjoy exercise.

Our inn is located directly on the Danube Cycle Path on the left bank of the Danube and the distance from Passau to Exlau is 47 kilometres. It is ideal for cyclists to stop at our inn after a day's ride and enjoy a well-deserved evening break.

The Danube Cycle Path is probably known to every cyclist. It runs 2800 kilometres from the source of the Danube to its mouth in the Black Sea. One of the most popular sections is the one from Passau via the Exlau to Linz. We are on one of the busiest cycle routes in Europe with the ideal infrastructure for cyclists. A fascinating and varied alternation of natural wonders, imposing monuments and impressive cities will accompany you on your tour along the Danube river, which, like an energising spring, will recharge your energy reserves during your well-deserved holiday.

Our region offers cyclists of all abilities and ages varied experiences in the midst of a unique landscape. Cycling on the Danube is sport, relaxation, nature and cultural enjoyment all in one.

Our guests appreciate the sunny and quiet location of our inn, where the Große Muehl stream flows into the river Danube. We are famous for our traditional Austrian cuisine!



You should visit Untermuehl, a lovely part of St.Martin, which is located just beside the Danube cycle path. This is the place to be if you are keen on hiking.

The buffet with 20 seats is located in the Sparmarkt Pernsteiner.
Breakfast - pastries fresh from the supermarket - coffee - drinks and small snacks are offered.

Scheue Räuber...   
Dieser scheue Geselle ist der Fischotter (Lutra lutra), ein am Wasser lebender Marder. Er wird etwa 130 cm lang, kommt in ganz Europa vor und lebt vor allem dämmerungsaktiv in schwer zugänglichen Uferzonen. Sein Revier kann bis zu 40 km Wasserlauf betragen und ist durch Duftmarken gekennzeichnet. Sogenannte „Ottersteige“ bezeichnen Pfade, die er immer als Ein- und Ausstieg in seine unterirdischen Baue benutzt. Fischotter sind Allesfresser und deshalb wenig wählerisch. Zu den Beutetieren gehören Fische, Insekten, Krebse und Säugetiere. Zum Leidwesen mancher Teichwirte jagt der Fischotter natürlich gerne dort, wo es ihm leicht gemacht wird und hat schon so manchen Fischteich leer geräumt. Häufig wird das durch Einzäunungen oder Ablenkteiche verhindert.

In Niederkappel kam einst eine "Geheimnisvolle Magd" einer armen Bauernfamilie zu Hilfe. Was es mit der fleißigen Frau auf sich hatte und wie sich die Armut doch noch von dem Bauernhof anwendete, erzählt eine spannende Donau-Sage.

Chronik   
Auf einem kleinen Höhenrücken zwischen Großer Mühl und Diesenbach liegt Kleinzell im Mühlkreis. Erstmalige urkundliche Erwähnung 1109. Historisch bedeutend war das Granitgewerbe, das heute in seiner Bedeutung abgenommen hat, aber noch immer einen hohen Stellenwert einnimmt. Davon zeugen mehrere, zum Teil schon aufgelassene Steinbrüche. Unverkennbar ist der bäuerliche Charakter der Kulturlandschaft. Diese bietet weite Ausblicke von der Alpenkette bis zum Böhmerwald. An Föntagen könnte man meinen, Kleinzell liegt am Fuße der Alpen. Als Sehenswürdigkeiten zu empfehlen sind: die Wallfahrtskirche Maria Ramersberg, das Kraftwerk Partenstein, die Brücke über die Große Mühl, die höchste in OÖ.

Tipps  
Auf dem Gelände eines ehemaligen Granitsteinbruches befindet sich die sogenannte „Resi-Lacke“. Dieses Naturjuwel bietet neben dem ca. 9.000 m² großen Badesee wunderschöne Liegeflächen, die zum Verweilen und Relaxen einladen.

Das Schloss Gneisenau entstand aus dem im Jahre 1161 erstmals urkundlich erwähntem Wasserschloss Gneisenau, welches nach Beschädigung durch Kriegseinwirkungen und durch Besatzungsmächte vom seinerzeitigen Bezirksfürsorgeverband Rohrbach in den 50er Jahren erworben, saniert und als Altenheim umgebaut wurde. Der Südtrakt des Schlosses mit seinem Zwiebelturm gibt auch nach dem Umbau im Jahr 2009 dem modern eingerichteten Alten- und Pflegeheim, das ca. 100 älteren und pflegebedürftigen Menschen eine Unterkunft bietet, sein äußeres Gepräge.

"Wie verhext" geht es oft zu, wenn man Unrecht tut. Wer betrügt und stiehlt, muss auch mit den Konsequenzen rechnen. Mehr dazu in der Donau-Sage.

Chronik
1263: Erste urkundliche Erwähnung Kirchbergs nach dem damaligen Ahnherrn des Geschlechts der Kirchberger ULRICUS DE CHIRBERCH. Dieses Geschlecht war ein Schaunberger Vasallengeschlecht. Der Ort liegt auf 580 m, das Gemeindegebiet umfasst ca. 21 km² und teilt sich auf in 18 Ortschaften.
Um 1400  wurde die heutige Pfarrkirche im gotischen Stil errichtet, 1711 wurde die Kirche barockisiert. Sie ist dem hl. Othmar geweiht.
Im 12 – 13. Jhdt. wurde in unserem Gebiet der Handel mit Salz sehr rege betrieben, wofür eine Landungsstelle an der Donau benötigt wurde. Es entstand der Ort Obermühl mit regem wirtschaftlichen Treiben. Als Wahrzeichen gilt der alte Getreidespeicher (Renaissancebau von  1618).

Tipp
Einen atemberaubenden Ausblick hat man vom Aussichtsturm (24 m). Das Aussichtsplateau am Burgstall ist ca. 10 Min. Gehzeit vom Ortsplatz entfernt.

Gegenüber von Obermühl kann man noch heute drei Felsen betrachten - was es mit ihnen auf sich hat und was es beudeutet, den Donaufürst zu verärgern, verrät die Donau-Sage "Wie versteinert".
