Pesenbach Valley-Kerzenstein

Description:
From the Waldbad in Bad Mühllacken, we hike along the right side of the Pesenbach stream into the nature reserve. We pass the forest shrine and the Gaißkirche. After the “Schlager Salettl,” the alpine hiking trail begins with the ascent to the Kerzenstein. We hike back down into the valley and cross to the opposite side of the stream at the Schlager Bridge, returning to the starting point.

Option 1: From Kerzenstein – Fürstberger snack bar – Oberwallsee farm road – Fürstberger and Eidendorfer chapels – back to the starting point

Option 2: From Kerzenstein – upstream to Gerling – where there is a train and bus stop with connections to Linz

Directions:
We admire unique natural wonders such as the “Steinerne Dachl” (a roof-shaped rock overhang), the “Blaue Gasse” (a narrow passage where dark volcanic rock has been exposed by water), the “Teufelsbottiche” (round hollows formed by whirlpools), and the “Kerzenstein,” the landmark of the Pesenbach Valley. Along the route, the Donausteig highlight “Paths to Healing” invites visitors to discover the Kneipp method for themselves and to explore places of power and cultural significance.

Tip:
We marvel at unique scenic attractions such as the "stone roof" (roof-shaped overhanging rock), the "blue alley" (narrow passage where dark volcanic rock has been exposed by water erosion", the "devil`s tubs" (round erosions formed by vortices) and "candle rock", the landmark of Pesenbach Valley. Along the route the Danube-trail highlight "ways to healing" beckons visitors to discover the Kneipp teachings for themselves and search out cult sites.Safety guidelines:
