Cosy café with homemade pastries in the middle of the market square of Lembach
The ancient Market Place in Lembach and the streets leading from it are rich in architectural gems. The lovely Baroque houses dominate the center and are a lasting symbol of the market town´s medieval wealth.
To commemorate the Farmer´s War of 1626, a Farmer´s War Fountain was installed next to the pillory (1612) on the downtown square in 1987.
While there are many variations on the story, it most frequently begins with a farmer who had promised his soul to the Devil in exchange for good fortune. Full of remorse, he soon wanted to get out of this bargain again. He returned all the money to the Devil and exclaimed a quick prayer in despair. The Devil got really furious and rammed his pitchfork into the stone - and these signs are still visible.
The second legend regarding the Devil and the Stone Cross also occurred in Lembach. The Devil got into a serious fight with a farmer at night. The farmer cut off a Devil´s horn. Racked with pain, the Devil slammed his foot into a stone. And these signs are still visible as well. Out of gratitude, the farmer then had the Stone Cross installed.
Fresh, regional products, seasonally prepared, fragrant herbs and crunchy fruit & vegetables from the in-house garden, that is the secret of the excellent cuisine that the Landgasthaus im Lembacherhof has to offer.
