Obernzell: Zeller Danube Trail Loop

The trail leading from Obernzell to Untergriesbach and back again has plenty to offer besides Obernzell Castle—home to the Bavarian Danube Region Museum—as well as the local history museum and the Baroque parish church.

You absolutely must visit the castle gardens—a place of relaxation, art, and play.

We begin our hike in Obernzell at the Donausteig starting point by the water feature at the castle, then turn left toward the elementary school. There we join the Donausteig trail, which we follow for a short distance. At the monastery, we turn right and hike through the forest. After passing the Hammermühle, we turn right and follow the course of the Hofleitenbach stream. From there, we reach Untergriesbach. We cross the market square and turn right onto Pilslgasse. We follow the path downhill and hike along the Griesenbach stream back to Obernzell.
