Charming Danube market with cultural flair
The boat landing stage is in a quiet location and is just a few minutes' walk from the center, past cozy coffee houses and restaurants. The idyllic Donaumarkt with its historic market center, romantic alleyways and unmistakable charm is an insider tip near Linz and scores with good train and bus connections.
The Danube ferry - a flying bridge that has been in operation since 1870 - takes visitors to the opposite side of the Danube to Wilhering, home to the important Wilhering Abbey with its magnificent rococo church and museum. The Cistercian monastery, founded in the 12th century, impresses with its ornate interior, impressive frescoes and one of the most beautiful rococo churches in Austria. The adjoining monastery garden invites you to take a relaxing stroll.
Since July 2019, the Danube Bus, a high-speed longitudinal ferry, has connected the banks of the Danube between Ottensheim and Linz/Urfahr. The crossing takes around 14 minutes and is also suitable for bicycles, baby carriages and wheelchairs. The Danube bus runs seasonally from May to September and provides a quick and convenient connection between the banks.
The proximity to the provincial capital Linz (approx. 30 minutes by car) and the convenient ferry connections make the Donaumarkt an ideal starting point for experiencing culture, nature and culinary delights in the region.
