St Martin is one of the most popular saints in Europe. He embodies the values of solidarity, sharing and modesty like no other. The St Martin's Way spans the life and work of the saint across the centre of Europe and across language barriers.
It leads from his birthplace Szombathely in Hungary to his episcopal see and grave in Tours in France.
The "Via Sancti Martini" also crosses Upper Austria on this route and runs from Enns to Passau, partly along the Way of St James and mostly along the Danube Trail. The Bavarian-Upper Austrian Danube Valley in particular shows pilgrims its impressive side, as the natural wonder of the Danube Loop Schlögen proves.
