5 to 12: Unheard-of resistance

Linz, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Memorial in memory of women who resisted the Nazi regime by Sabrina Kern and Mariel Rodriguez. In 2021, the province of Upper Austria initiated an open competition to create a work of art dedicated to women who resisted the Nazi regime. The competition was organised by OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH in cooperation with the University of Art and Design Linz.

Sabrina Kern and Mariel Rodríguez won the competition with their project "5 to 12. Unheard of Resistance".

Every Saturday at 5 to 12, the audio sculpture on OK Platz pays tribute to a woman with a loud outcry, mentioning her name as well as the place and nature of her act of resistance. This unique project creates a place in the centre of the provincial capital that draws attention to the role of women in the resistance against the Nazi regime, a role that has hardly been recognised by society to date. The project, co-financed and realised by OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH, is intended to keep the memory alive and encourage reflection on the scope for action of resistance in different social circumstances.
