Upper Austrian Museum of Military History

Linz, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Initiative for the preservation of the military and cultural history collection in Upper Austria.

The traditional regiment k.k. Landwehrinfanterieregiment Linz Nr. 2 laid the foundation for the current collections of the Forum Wehrgeschichte Oberösterreich by rescuing the Jungschützenmuseum in 2005 and taking over the holdings of the Freiwillige OÖ Schützen. In the meantime, the collection has been expanded to include the military estates of several people as well as realia, artefacts and documents on Upper Austrian military and garrison history.

The Forum Wehrgeschichte Oberösterreich association, founded in 2021, has found a new home with its extensive collections and holdings in a building of the former Hiller barracks in Linz-Ebelsberg. In these premises, which are now available, the partly unique exhibits can now be presented in an appropriate manner and thus made accessible to the interested public.

The history of the former Hiller Barracks with its units of the B-Gendarmerie and the Austrian Armed Forces stationed there in the Second Republic, as well as the Upper Austrian military history with the troop units of the Imperial and Royal Army, are currently being presented at the provisional site. Army are currently on display at the temporary location. With the completion of the new "Linz district Sommerfeld" on the former barracks area, the Upper Austrian military history will be permanently housed there.
