Schlossberg Neuhaus
St. Martin im Mühlkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich
- Suitable for groups
The forest reserve covers the riverbank slope - the "Donauleiten" in the area of Neuhaus Castle high above the Danube near Untermühl. The approximately 20-hectare conservation area covers the entire slope area across all altitude levels from the Danube up to the castle
Here, man has had little impact on the forest landscape, which is dotted with rock castles and towers. Pines and oaks grow on the exposed rocky outcrops on the upper slopes. The further the Donauleiten slopes down towards the bank, the more the sessile oak dominates the forest community. In some places, rocky grasslands sprout, in which as many as 115 different plant species have been identified. Schlossberg Neuhaus is therefore an extremely diverse biotope in which different habitats intertwine like a mosaic. A natural wonder that can be easily explored in just under half an hour's hike thanks to the "Felsensteig", which runs through the entire slope.
