The district capital, Eferding, is the third-oldest city in Austria (granted city rights in 1222). The town center is the large town square, which was generously laid out in the 13th century and has remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages, featuring imposing townhouses—all with Gothic cores and magnificent facades—as well as Starhemberg Castle.
Eferding’s town center is not defined solely by the town square and its beautiful facades. A spiritual site featuring the Trinity Column is also located right in the heart of Eferding. The second spiritual site is the twin spiral staircase in the town parish church.
