Römer-Rastplatz Aschach

Aschach an der Donau, Oberösterreich, Österreich
One of the 20 Roman rest areas “Römer-Rastplatz” at the Danube Cycle Path in Upper Austria invites cycling guests in Aschach an der Donau to gather new energy and information about the Roman heritage, Danube Cycle Path and the town.
The rest areas feature an exposed concrete column, which reminds of the Roman milestones, wears a Roman head that was created by the artist Miguel Horn and presents information about the region, Danube Cycle Path and the Romans. Additionally they encompass a five metre long bench, made out of stone and concrete, and a solid ground of Danube pebble stones.

The architecture is inspired by the design elements during Roman times.

The concept comes from a competition which was jointly organized with the University of Art and Design of Linz and won by the student Lukas Beltrame. An important partner during the construction of the sites was the “Bauakademie” in Steyregg, which produced with their trainees all mounting parts for the rest areas.
