What was once the home of the forester family of Faber-Castell (manufacturer of pens) has been turned today into a local meeting centre with museum sections thanks to the enthused residents of Freinberg who made the building usable by renovating it true to the original. In our small, very well equipped museum many original utensils show the regional history like for example
the everyday working life of the customs officers
extraction of the raw material “Tegel” for the pencil production
the exploitation of clay of Freiberg “Freinberger Ton”, which already took place 500 years ago for the production of clay pots in Hafnerzell, today known as Oberzell
The special attraction of our museum is a scientifically supported dialect language laboratory with former and present dialects on both sides of the border between the Innviertel and Bavaria and its changes.
An enclosed ancient granary “Troadkasten” with many daily farm utensils makes the museum complete. The granary from 1786 was professionally restored, next to it you can see an old oven that still works.
Additionally, you can find here an attached beehive hut, an information station about bees and a unique educational trail about bees "BiWaNa" of our beekeeper association.
