As the largest freshwater fish on earth, the sturgeon is considered to be a fish of prehistoric times. It was threatened with extinction for a long time - particularly because of the coveted beluga caviar - and is therefore strictly protected.
Gottfried Hader has been trying to breed the common sturgeon (Hausen), which can grow up to 6 metres long and weigh up to a tonne, for over 25 years.
