The chamber choir Perg die lautmaler emerged from the former Liedertafel Perg in 1989. Consisting of around 30 singers from the region and directed by Josef Waidhofer, the choir regularly gives concerts at home and abroad (Musica Sacra, Brucknerhaus Linz, Aberseer Musiktage, Schrobenhausen, Grado, etc.). The collaboration with soloists from various opera houses and renowned conductors is a result of the ensemble's endeavour to offer high-quality concert experiences.
As prize winners at international competitions, the lautmaler kammerchor perg have repeatedly documented their quality: two gold medals at the International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition in Linz (2007); category winner and gold medal at the International Brahms Competition in Wernigerode (Germany, 2004); silver medal at the Choir Olympics in Linz (2000); 1st prize in Verona (Italy 1994).
The lautmaler's repertoire includes choral works from the Renaissance to the present day, with choirmaster Josef Waidhofer focussing increasingly on Romantic choral literature. It is also a particular concern of the choir to perform challenging contemporary literature. Jan Truhlar, Heinrich Gattermayr, Herman Dechant and Wolfram Buchenberg have already composed for the lautmaler. The CD released in 1999, which contains exclusively contemporary a cappella works, bears witness to this fruitful collaboration.
