Pesenbachtal Nature reserve

Feldkirchen an der Donau, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups

Partial lock: Pesenbach valley barrier

Description: Due to the rainfall and storms, many trees have fallen.
The Pesenbach Valley is therefore only accessible from the Bad Mühllacken forest baths as far as the turn-off to the Schlagerwirt/Jägersteig .
From there up to the Kerzenstein is until further notice strictly forbidden to enter due to the landslide and danger of falling rocks.
A period of time cannot be set aside.

Inquiries can be made at the Feldkirchen a.d.D. municipal office at Tel:  +43 7233 7255

Natural jewel Pesenbachtal - the wild and romantic hiking classic

The Pesenbachtal in Bad Mühllacken is a unique natural area with a long tradition of healing. Under the motto "Paths to Healing", it invites its visitors to discover the Kneipp teachings for themselves and to track down places of power and cult.
PLEASE NOTE: No winter service!

The Pesenbachtal was the 2019 state winner as the most beautiful place in Upper Austria (9 places - 9 treasures)

Important information about the hike: The Pesenbachtal hiking trail is mostly marked with a red dot and has an alpine character. This means: sure-footedness, fitness and sturdy footwear are a basic requirement!

How to get to the Pesenbachtal:
Gerling: By train - ÖBB stop Gerling,

By car: Please park on the weekends FR/SA/SO only before entering Bad Mühllacken in the marked visitor car park! Thank you!

Bad Mühllacken: Take the regional bus to the bus stop "Bad Mühllacken Kurhaus"

In the Persenbachtal many characteristics can be discovered such as the so-called “blaue Gasse” (blue alleway). This natural monument is an approximately one metre broad channel with a striking blue-black colouring. Water from a slightly radioactive spring, the Bruno-spring, is used for Kneipp-facilities. On the northern slopes of the valley the spruce is predominant. It was planted and is thereby a not-native tree and doesn’t fit to the valley. Drought-loving trees such as hornbeam and Scotch pine feel comfortable on the southern slopes. With a bit of luck you will meet an Aesculapian snake or a green lizard, which you can find on the high edge of the steeply incised valley on southern rocky slopes. When it is rainy, it is possible to meet a fire salamander that stands out by its yellow-orange warning colour.
