Modern logistics hub and oldest city in Austria
Ennshafen, located around 25 kilometers east of Linz at the mouth of the River Enns into the Danube, is now a modern logistics and service center for the shipping industry. The landing stage is located directly in the port and offers a very good infrastructure with direct bus access. A Danube ferry also connects Enns with Mauthausen opposite - an attractive connection for excursions on both sides of the Danube.
Only around 4 kilometers from the port is the town of Enns, which is considered the oldest town in Austria (town charter since 1212). The charming medieval old town, the striking town tower and numerous historical buildings and archaeological sites bear witness to its long and eventful history.
Two museums invite you to delve deeper: The Lauriacum Museum, a Roman museum in the former town hall, houses one of the most important Roman collections in Austria. In addition to exhibits on antiquity, there are also exhibitions on prehistory, urban history, sacred art, folklore and arts and crafts. The 1212 Museum is dedicated to the history of the town of Enns - from the first documentary mention to the present day. The modern presentation shows how the town has developed over the centuries.
Not far away is the impressive St. Florian Abbey, one of the most important baroque monasteries in Austria. The magnificent complex with its collegiate church, the famous Bruckner organ and the altarpiece by Albrecht Altdorfer is a worthwhile excursion for culture enthusiasts and art lovers.
