Dry meadows and unloved immigrants...
The Eferding Basin is dominated by intensive agricultural use, which extends to the Austufe and the lower terraces. Nevertheless, some valuable structures and habitats have been preserved. The embankments along the Danube, which are popular with cyclists, are important biotopes for dry meadows on their south-facing flanks (sage and smooth oat meadows). This type of meadow can also be found along the embankments of roads. Without intensive human maintenance (mowing), these meadows would disappear. Another danger is often posed by so-called neophytes (plants introduced by humans) such as the Canadian goldenrod, which was cultivated as an ornamental plant. It often goes wild and spreads to dry meadows.
The robber baron Mangold once had his castle near Pupping. Mangold was a "real scoundrel" who came to a tragic end!
