A tourism association was founded on 31 March 1960, after rooms had been rented out by innkeepers and private individuals since 1953. An average of 600 overnight stays were recorded each year.
In 1979, the Upper Danube Valley Association was founded under the chairmanship of Augustin Sigl, of which the tourism association became a member. Around 1990, the highest number of overnight stays was achieved with 10,030 overnight stays. In 1994, the tourist association was renamed the tourism association and in 2002 the association community was renamed the Donau Oberösterreich advertising community. In recent years, an average of 3600 arrivals and 7500 overnight stays have been recorded. In 2008, the Wesenufer Seminar Culture Centre was opened and the number of overnight stays rose again to around 10,000 per year. Unfortunately, the Nibelungen campsite was officially closed in 2010 and the number of overnight stays has hovered around 8,500 ever since. On 31 December 2018, the Waldkirchen/Wesenufer Tourism Association was dissolved due to restructuring by the province of Upper Austria.
