The Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz with its international collection is considered one of the most important museums of modern art in Austria.
Opened in 2003, the 130-meter-long structure of the Linz Lentos, with its spectacular location directly on the Danube, advanced within a very short time to become an architectural landmark of the city of Linz. The transparent glass shell, which shimmers in blue or pink at night, has the shape of an oversized picture frame. Lentos and the Ars Electronica Center's shared play of colors makes the Danube shine at night.
Inside, generously dimensioned exhibition spaces create a space that offers the best possible conditions for presenting modern art.
With its international collection, the Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz is one of the most important museums of modern art in Austria. Today, the collection includes treasures such as paintings and works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Lovis Corinth and Max Pechstein. German and Austrian Expressionism are represented in Lentos as well as works of the New Objectivity.
In 2015 the city of Linz acquired the estate of VALIE EXPORT, who was born in Linz. The artist's archive will be added to the LENTOS collection
In addition, special exhibitions provide insights into a variety of themes and epochs in art or are dedicated to the work of individual artists. An art education programme specially designed for children allows them to learn about Linz Lentos and its exhibitions in a playful way.
The Lentos Café is also located in the museum building with a wonderful terrace directly on the river.
Due to the current situation, museum operations have been temporarily suspended.
