The "Museum of the Future" brings the future into the present. The Ars Electronica Center is considered the center of the UNESCO City of Media Arts. Here, visitors not only test and explore pioneering technologies, but are also encouraged to take a critical look at them.
With its exhibitions and programmes, the Ars Electronica Center has set itself the task of communicating to visitors how new technologies and sciences affect all of our lives. Through interactive exhibitions and open labs, the public is actively involved in this process. Thanks to specially developed educational programmes and workshops, the "Museum of the Future" has also earned the title of "School of the Future".
Deep Space 8K opens a number of other doors to new content: Two 16-by-9-metre projections on the wall and floor, peppered with sophisticated people tracking, make the walk-in Deep Space 8K a unique experience space. The "Pharus" laser tracking system, which Otto Naderer, an employee of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, conceived for his master's thesis and is constantly developing, has fascinated students at the FH OÖ Campus Hagenberg and the Linz University of Art so much that they have constructed their own applications for Deep Space. Six laser sensors mounted on the edge of the floor at ankle height record the positions of people moving in space. The combination of simultaneous evaluation of the measurement data and intelligent tracking makes it possible to register up to 30 people in Deep Space 8K with this set-up.
The Ars Electronica Festival takes place annually in September in Linz and brings together artists, creatives, representatives from science, research, technology and business from all over the world to present their work and their visions of the future. Since 1979, it has provided a stage for eclectic, fascinating and surprising creative works and a unique environment for intensive discussions and inspiring encounters.
