Once home to the guards of the ducal palace, this castle gate now houses Schärding's local museum. Until 1809, it was accessible only via a bridge across the outer moat. The older part of the building at the rear was originally four storeys high. Made of tuff, it was once the outermost tower of the fortress built for Duke Ludwig the Bearded between 1428 and 1436.
