Day 3 - Grein-Sarmingstein stage approx. 16.2 km, running time approx. 2.5 hours, individual journey home
Today's running stage on the Donausteig leads you through the beautiful Danube valley of the Strudengau. Once feared by sailors because of its treacherous whirlpools, you run through this exciting piece of Danube history from Grein via St. Nikola to Sarmingstein. In the legendary Stillensteinklamm gorge, you walk partly on natural paths, partly on climbing paths, past rushing cascades, moss-covered granite formations, small reservoirs and through the overhanging rock, the so-called Steinerne Stube. There is much to discover on this tour in the Danube valley: the charming little town of Grein as the gateway to the Strudengau, the most dangerous water eddies of the entire Danube course or Säbnich Castle as a bulwark in the east. Luggage return in Sarmingstein by 5.30 pm at the latest.
