Advent hike in Linz

Discover the most beautiful spots, the most impressive viewpoints, and the hidden gems of Linz in winter—together with a true local: Markus Leonhartsberger, a certified hiking guide, has put together two special Advent hikes.

There are two different Christmas hiking trails:

Route 1:
Advent hike from Linz’s local mountain to the city center: Ascent to Pöstlingberg via the Pöstlingbergbahn cable car—Pöstlingberg Church—viewing platform—loop around Pöstlingberg—descent to Linz’s Hauptplatz via safe trails. Elevation gain: The route consists almost entirely of trails that lead downhill, some of which are quite steep. Length: approx. 6 km.

Route 2:
Advent hike via the Franz Josef Warte to the Mariendom: Linz’s Hauptplatz – Castle – Franz Josef Warte (Danube Valley) – Stadium – Bauernberg Park – Mariendom. Elevation gain: approx. 140 (uphill and downhill sections are part of the route). Length: approx. 6.5 km.

For a truly special pre-Christmas experience, both tours can also be taken as atmospheric torchlight hikes. This allows you to see Linz from a very special, wintry perspective.

These guided tours are also available as torchlight hikes from November through the end of January between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The surcharge per torch is €4.

Tours are conducted in German and English! Mixed-language groups are welcome!

NOTE: Routes may be altered to ensure the safety of guests, e.g., in the event of icy conditions on paths, trails, etc.
Advent hikes can be booked individually through the end of January.
